Nikki The Can Do It Kid
by Grandpa Otto Storey
Born on December 9th of Nineteen Eighty
Was the Can Do it Kit.
She always said I can do it
And by golly, she always did.

Nikki is her given name
Her maiden name is Storey
And though it wasn't easy
She boosted the name to Glory.

One day there was a haunting sound
Wafting along like the down of a thistle
And low and behold, this two year old
Had Suddenly learned how to whistle.

When starting my three-wheeler one day
It wouldn't go, that's all there was to it
She said, "Grandpa let me give it a try"
And I'll be darned if she didn't do it.

So after that when I wanted to start it
So I could take it for a little trip
Instead of playing myself out cranking it
I'd just have Nikki give it a flip.

When she was about in the sixth grade
At the end of the yar they gave out awards
She won more awards than the rest of the class
It was too marvelous for words.

She then decided she'd like to go hunting
She said all I need is a bit of luck
I put her out at the point, where Ted Nally missed a deer
And she shot an eight-point buck.
I heard two shots from HAYLOADER POINT
My first guess, that was a miss
But as usual she had proved me wrong
She was floating along in a void of bliss

She also has little Mackenzie
A child raised through stress and strife
Who with her infectious smile and sparkling eyes
She brightens Great Grandpa and Grandma's life.

When wanting to drive the car or three-wheeler
She said "Grandpa, there's nothing to it"
And I'd be doggoned if I just let her try
This kid could really do it.

She says she is going to college this fall
My how the time does fly
And I know her ability to get up and go
She'll give it the "Old College Try".

She'll work long hours and study real hard
With zest and zeal, she'll pursue it
I know she'll not come home and said I failed
This Can Do Kid can do it.

Now if I could choose from all of the Can Do It Kids
Whatever would I do
I'd make up my mind in less than a heartbeat
And Nikki it would be you.

And when at graduation
It will make me very proud
To have my Granddaughter read my poem
She will do it clear, plain and loud.
